Signs Your Child May Benefit From a Learning Disability Evaluation

You might consider an evaluation if your child is:

  • Struggling to read at grade level despite consistent practice and instruction.
  • Avoiding writing assignments or producing work that does not reflect their verbal abilities.
  • Having persistent difficulty with math concepts, number sense, or computation.
  • Working significantly harder than their peers to achieve similar results.
  • Falling behind academically despite average or above-average intelligence
  • Becoming frustrated, anxious, or resistant about school.
  • Not qualifying for school services even though you know something is not right.

If any of this sounds familiar, you are not alone. These are among the most common reasons families reach out to us.

Step 1: Intake / Consultation

We meet with you and your child to understand your concerns and gather relevant history and records. This helps us prepare for assessment and puts your child at ease. Bella, our office dog, may greet you in the elevator. If you or your child are uncomfortable around dogs, let us know ahead of time and we will plan accordingly.

Step 2: First Testing Session

Your child completes standardized assessments (typically 2 to 3 hours) in a supportive, one-on-one environment with built-in breaks. We use evidence-based measures tailored to their developmental level.

Step 3: Second Testing Session

A second session (1 to 2 weeks later, similar length) continues testing. Multiple sessions allow us to gather comprehensive data and observe patterns across different contexts.

Frequently Asked Questions

School evaluations typically focus on academic achievement and may not assess the underlying cognitive processing skills that support learning. Our individualized neuropsychological evaluation assesses both, giving us a more complete picture of why your child is struggling and what kind of support will make the biggest difference.

Yes. Our report provides the documentation schools need for a 504 plan or special education services. We include specific accommodations tailored to your child’s profile and are happy to speak directly with your child’s school team.

We evaluate for learning disabilities such as dyslexia (reading), dysgraphia (writing), dyscalculia (math). We also assess cognitive and processing deficits that may underlie academic difficulties.

The full process typically takes 6 to 8weeks from intake to feedback. Testing with your child typically occurs over two sessions, each lasting 3 to 4 hours. In between testing and the feedback visit, our team analyzes all data and prepares a detailed written report.

We are not contracted with insurance, but many families still receive reimbursement depending on their plan. In some cases, out-of-network exceptions may allow in-network reimbursement rates. We are happy to provide the information you need to check your coverage and can answer any cost-related questions during your initial call.

Because we tailor the evaluation to your child’s needs, pricing varies reflective of time and complexity. Call us at (253) 256-3626 for a cost estimate. We also offer financial assistance for families who need it.
