Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by persistent differences in social communication, social interaction, and restricted or repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities. Autism presents differently in every child. Some children exhibit noticeable differences in how they communicate and interact from an early age. Others, particularly girls and children with strong verbal skills, may not exhibit noticeable differences until school demands increase and social expectations shift.
When a family comes to us with concerns about autism, we conduct a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation that includes the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule), the gold standard assessment tool for autism diagnosis. The ADOS is not a checklist or questionnaire. A trained clinician plays and interacts with your child through a series of structured and unstructured tasks, observing how they naturally communicate and relate to others. All of our clinicians are formally trained in ADOS administration.
Your child may also participate in cognitive, emotional, and functional assessment as part of the evaluation. Because autism often co-occurs with other conditions, our comprehensive approach evaluates the whole child, not just the question of whether autism is present. This means we may assess social communication alongside cognitive abilities, academic skills, emotional functioning, and adaptive behavior, so that we can provide you with the greatest degree of understanding and targeted recommendations to support your child.
Our Approach: What Sets Us Apart
Before we begin any formal testing, we take time to get to know your child and understand your concerns. We help your child feel comfortable and at ease because when a child is relaxed, we see their true abilities and challenges.
