Parent Coaching & Behavior Management for Children & Teens

Our fellowship-trained pediatric psychologists work directly with parents to build the skills that change behavior at home. When everyday routines turn into conflict, the most effective intervention is teaching the adults who are there every day. We give you a clear, practical plan and the coaching to carry it out.

What You Will Work On

Coaching is tailored to your child and your home, and commonly covers

01
Clear, Effective Instructions

How to ask for cooperation in a way children can actually follow, often by using far fewer words.

02
Consistent Responses

Predictable, calm consequences and follow-through that reduce power struggles.

03
Positive Attention and Reinforcement

Building the behaviors you want to see, not only reacting to the ones you don't.

04
Managing Escalation

Strategies for meltdowns, defiance, and high-conflict moments before they spiral.

05
Routines and Structure

Setting up the home environment so good behavior is easier for everyone.

Not Sure Which Service Your Child Needs?

Many families aren’t sure which service is the best fit – and that’s completely normal. Our team can discuss your child’s specific situation and recommend the right starting point. We’re here to help you figure it out.

How It Works: Parents Learn, Parents Lead

You meet with one of our psychologists to learn the intervention step by step. We explain the why behind each strategy, model it, and coach you through applying it to your child’s specific behaviors. Between sessions, you implement the strategies at home and report back on what is working, and we adjust the plan together.

Your child does not attend these sessions. The focus is on equipping you, because consistent, confident parenting is what moves behavior. This is the part families sometimes find surprising, and it is also the part that works.

Two Ways to Take Part

We offer the same core content in two formats, and we help you choose the one that fits your family.

  • Parent group: A small group of parents from different families works through the strategies together. Many parents value hearing that they are not alone and learning from others facing similar challenges. Group availability depends on current enrollment, so timing varies.
  • One-on-one parent sessions: We work privately with you and your co-parent on your child’s specific situation. This format is available when a group is not running or when your family’s needs call for individual attention.

Whichever format you choose, the goal is the same: you finish with a working set of strategies and the confidence to use them.

Why Families Choose Children’s BMC

  • Specialists, not generalists: our psychologists bring decades of combined experience in pediatric behavioral care.
  • Strategies that hold up at home: we coach you until the approach feels natural, not just explain it once.
  • A warm, judgment-free setting: behavior challenges are common, and seeking help is a strength, not a failure.

How to Get Started

1. Call Us
2. Your First Appointment
3. Begin Care

A member of our team will talk with you about your child’s needs, help identify the right service, and answer any initial questions. No referral needed. Call us at (253) 256-3626 or email admin@childrensbmc.com.

We begin with an intake or consultation to understand your child’s history, gather information, and learn what matters most to you and your child. Bring any school evaluations, IEP/504 plans, past evaluations, or report cards you have – but if you don’t have anything, that’s fine too.

Whether you’re starting an evaluation, therapy, or a skills group, we guide you through each step and keep you updated throughout the process. We’re collaborative from day one – a partner in your child’s journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. This service works directly with parents. We teach you the strategies, and you put them into practice with your child at home. This is intentional: lasting behavior change comes from consistent, confident parenting in everyday moments, not from a child practicing a skill once a week in our office.

Parent behavior management is targeted coaching focused on specific behavior challenges, with you as the agent of change. If your child would benefit from individual therapy or a comprehensive evaluation, we can discuss those options and help you find the right fit, here or through a referral.

We offer a parent group when there is enough enrollment to run one, and one-on-one parent sessions are available the rest of the time. Because group timing depends on current interest, the best way to find out what is available now is to call us.

Pricing varies reflective of time and complexity. We are happy to answer cost-related questions during your initial call.

We are not contracted with insurance, but many families still receive reimbursement depending on their plan. In some cases, out-of-network exceptions may allow in-network reimbursement rates. We are happy to provide the information you need to check your coverage and can answer any cost-related questions during your initial call.

No referral is needed. You can reach out any time you are concerned about your child’s behavior, and we are always happy to talk through whether parent coaching makes sense for your family.
