Biofeedback
Biofeedback is a technique that helps children gain better awareness and/or control of some of the body’s physiological functions, such as heart rate, breathing, and muscle responses. It is evidence-based treatment for chronic pain conditions such as headaches and functional abdominal pain. In biofeedback training sessions, participants are connected to specialized equipment that helps obtain information about their body. Video games are often used during biofeedback sessions to make training more enjoyable.
Pediatric Neuropsychology
Pediatric neuropsychologists offer a full range of neuropsychological care to children and young adults. Services consist of consultation, screening, evaluation, school liaison, and intervention for challenges related to conditions effecting development, learning, or overall functioning. Examples of common concerns include but are not limited to autism, learning disabilities, ADHD, concussion, epilepsy and other seizure disorder, effect of cancer or cancer treatment, and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
Pediatric Psychology
Pediatric psychologists offer evidence-based treatment to children with medical and/or neurodevelopmental conditions, and mood and behavior concerns. Common concerns that we may treat include anxiety, depression, behavioral and developmental disorders, and Tourette syndrome.
Cognitive Screening Assessment
We offer cognitive screening sometimes requested for general cognitive clarification, to accompany some private school applications as a part of their admissions process, or for consideration for eligibility for a highly capable program in the public school districts.
Most Common Types of Evaluations
Neuropsychological evaluations may have a specific focus or may be more comprehensive to comprise and/or clarify a number of concerns. For example, a child may benefit from an evaluation to diagnose Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), learning disability, or autism. Or, the child may benefit from a more comprehensive evaluation of general cognitive functioning, learning, memory, executive function, academic skills, emotional and/or social well being. We can help families determine evaluation needs and goals over the phone or at the first appointment.
Learning Disability Evaluation
There may be concerns for a child’s performance in reading capacity, writing capacity and mathematics. For reading, there may be concerns for a child’s capacity to be able to recognize words by sight, be able to sound out words that are unfamiliar to them or be able to read words in sentences and being able to derive meaning from what they have read. For mathematics, there may be concerns for a child’s capacity to retain and apply math facts, and/or their computational skills and capacity to solve word problems.
Comprehensive Evaluation
A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation includes a full assessment of all cognitive, emotional, and social domains to most effectively determine if/what may be posing a barrier to the child’s optimal functioning.
ADHD Evaluation
There may be concerns that a child is exhibiting a range of inattentive and/or impulsive behaviors over an extended period that appear to be atypical for the child’s age and appear to be interfering with schoolwork and/or social interaction.
Autism Evaluation
There may be concerns that a child is exhibiting challenges with their social interactions, social communication, and behaviors.

Skills Groups
We offer a few different skills groups throughout the year, depending on need and interest. Our groups run for 8 weeks.
Executive Functioning Skills Group
This group is designed to help individuals increase flexibility and learn effective goal setting, planning, and problem-solving skills. The age range for this group is 11 through 18. Groups are age/developmentally matched depending upon specific participants.
Behavior Management Group
This group is designed to assist your family in promoting a child’s success at home and in developing a more satisfying and positive parent-child relationship. We use a behavioral approach in this program. This means we focus on identifying and targeting environmental influences on a child’s actions.
Social Skills Group
This group is designed to help teens make and keep friends, by teaching good conversational skills, assist with expanding social opportunities, and ways to handle peer rejection, teasing, and bullying. Our group follows the PEERS curriculum, which is an evidence-based social skills program developed at the UCLA PEERS clinic.
